Dwarsligging & instabiele ligging

Tijdens de zwangerschap liggen de meeste baby’s bij een termijn van 36 weken met het hoofd naar beneden. Een klein deel van de kinderen ligt dan nog in een andere houding. In de verloskunde wordt dan vaak gesproken over ‘een afwijkende ligging’. Dit artikel beschrijft dwarsligging (waarbij de baby dwars in de baarmoeder ligt) en een instabiele ligging (waarbij de baby in de laatste weken blijft wisselen van ligging). 

We leggen uit wat een dwarsligging en instabiele ligging inhouden, hoe vaak het voorkomt, in welke gevallen de kans groter is op een dwars- of instabiele ligging is, wanneer en waarom dit een probleem vormt, wat het beleid is en wat daarbij de onderbouwing is. 

Daarnaast gaat dit artikel in op het onderwerp navelstrengprolaps, ook wel een uitgezakte navelstreng. Dit is een zeldzame complicatie en komt vaker voor als de baby in een instabiele, dwars- of stuitligging ligt. Er wordt in dit artikel uitgelegd wat het is, waarom het risicovol is, welke vormen er bestaan, wat het beleid en wat de onderbouwing is van dit beleid.
