Na het doormaken van een (heftige) bevalling kan het voorkomen dat er een bevallingstrauma ontstaat. In deze samenvatting van het artikel ‘Bevallingstrauma’ bespreekt GZ-psycholoog Karianne van Vliet wat een bevallingstrauma inhoudt, hoe het kan ontstaan, welke klachten ermee gepaard gaan, en wat het verschil is met een bevallingsgerelateerde PTSS. Verder wordt ingegaan op secundair trauma bij partners en zorgverleners, verschillende behandelmethodes en preventiemogelijkheden; wat men zelf kan doen bij deze klachten en hoe zorgverleners cliënten met dergelijke klachten kunnen ondersteunen.
