In Nederland krijgt 0,1 tot 2,0% van de zwangeren in de tweede helft van de zwangerschap te maken met hevige jeuk in combinatie met een hoge waarde van galzure zouten in het bloed. Oftewel; zwangerschapscholestase. Lange tijd werd een inleiding bij 37 weken geadviseerd, maar naar aanleiding van recent onderzoek is in 2024 dit advies veranderd. Afhankelijk van de waarde van galzure zouten wordt (het bespreken van) een inleiding bij 36, 38 of 39 weken geadviseerd.

Wat is zwangerschapscholestase nu precies? Wat zijn de mogelijke complicaties en wat is de kans dat deze optreden? Heeft eerder inleiden zin? Deze en andere vragen worden beantwoord in dit artikel.
