Samenvatting VBAC of CBAC: baren na een eerdere keizersnede

In 2021 beviel 18,1% van de zwangeren in Nederland via een keizersnede. Als zij opnieuw zwanger raken, komen zij voor de keuze te staan: een vaginale bevalling of een geplande keizersnede. Een vaginale bevalling na een eerdere keizersnede wordt een VBAC genoemd: Vaginal Birth After a Caesarean. Als een zwangere kiest voor een VBAC, is dit volgens de Nederlandse richtlijn een indicatie om in de tweedelijnszorg (in het ziekenhuis) te bevallen met continue monitoring via een CTG.

Wat is de onderbouwing van deze richtlijn? Wat zijn de risico’s van een VBAC en van een geplande keizersnede? En wat is de kans om bij een VBAC daadwerkelijk vaginaal te baren?
