Zwangere vrouwen worden vaak gewaarschuwd voor bepaalde voedingsmiddelen, omdat die een kans op voedselinfecties geven. Tijdens de zwangerschap werkt een deel van het immuunsysteem minder goed. Dit is belangrijk, omdat het voorkomt dat het lichaam de baby niet afstoot. Wel zorgt het verminderde immuunsysteem ervoor dat zwangere vrouwen wat vatbaarder zijn voor voedselinfecties.
De vier belangrijkste voedselinfecties tijdens de zwangerschap zijn toxoplasmose, listeriose, E. coli-infectie en salmonellose. Wat zijn de symptomen en mogelijke gevolgen van deze voedselinfecties? Hoe kan besmetting ontstaan en hoe groot is de kans daarop? Wat zijn de mogelijkheden om het te voorkomen of te behandelen? In dit artikel beantwoorden we deze en meer vragen.
Sommige stukjes in dit artikel kunnen heftig zijn om te lezen, maar bedenk je dat de kans op het krijgen van een voedselinfectie erg klein is. Het vermijden van alle voedingsmiddelen met een eventueel risico kan er ook voor zorgen dat je niet alle nutriënten binnenkrijgt die je nodig hebt. Het belangrijkste is om te proberen gezond te eten. Maar als je bijvoorbeeld erg misselijk bent, is alles wat je binnenhoudt al mooi meegenomen. |
