Vitamine K

In Nederland is het advies om alle baby’s na de geboorte 1 milligram vitamine K oraal (via de mond) toe te dienen. Dit voert de verloskundige of andere zorgverlener uit. Het was de bedoeling dat de orale druppels medio 2022 vervangen zouden worden door een eenmalige injectie in het bovenbeen van de baby. Na eerder uitstel (de invoering zou in 2025 plaatsvinden) vanwege verzet onder met name verloskundigen, is in januari 2024 besloten de invoering voorlopig op de lange baan te schuiven.

Tot de baby 13 weken oud is, worden ouders geadviseerd om zelf de baby dagelijks 150 microgram vitamine K-druppels te geven. Maar wat doet vitamine K eigenlijk?
